ISDN
Dial up connections
Most
of the world's existing telephone network is already digital. The
only part that typically isn't digital is the section that runs
from the local exchange to your house or office. ISDN (Integrated
Service Digital Network) makes that final leg of the network digital.
Just as compact discs have made recorded music digital, ISDN upgrades
today's analog telephone network to a digital system. In short,
ISDN is quite simply a very quick way of sending data via a digital
phone line. Its speed and clarity mean you can use it to send and
receive text, voice, video and images in seconds by virtue of its
speed and clarity. An ISDN line can dedicate all its capacity to
data transmission and the result is an increase in efficiency, quality,
and cost savings.
ISDN
is simply an alternative type of telephone line (available upon
request from your telecommunications provider) with benefits including:
- Digital
connection
- Guaranteed
connection rate every time
- Faster
connection rates with options for 64kbps and 128kbps
- Generally,
connection speeds are 2-6 times faster than traditional phone
lines
- Increased
reliability

In addition, you save time and cost in the connection time of the
call because ISDN calls can be set up much faster than analog data
calls. While an analog modem can take up to half a minute to set
up a connection, ISDN can typically be transmitting data in a quarter
of a second.
